Installing the VPN Client on Your MS Windows Computer

Resolution Steps:


The installation instructions below utilizes Chrome as the browser for running the SonicWall Secure Mobile Access VPN, but MS Internet Explorer and Firefox are also compatible.  Please keep in mind that the install can take up to 5 minutes depending on the speed of your computer and internet connection.


NOTE: Supervisor Approval for VPN required

  • Texas Wesleyan users will request VPN access through the IT Department.  The User will need to get approval from their supervisor.  Supervisor approval can be accomplished in one of the two methods below:
    • Complete the on-line form at this link: VPN Access Form
      • The form has a check box indicating supervisor approval was obtained and there are fields on the form for the supervisors name, phone number and e-mail address
    • An e-mail from the supervisor to stating that the employee requesting VPN access is approved for VPN access
  • Once approval for VPN access is received, the Help Desk will add you to the appropriate Security Group that will allow your VPN Access.
    • After you have been added to the appropriate VPN Security group, you will be able to complete the remaining steps
  1. After the Help Desk has added you to the Security Group, you are ready to install the Sonic Secure Mobile Access Client

  2. Install the SonicWall Secure Mobil Access client
  3. If prompted, allow Pop Ups for
    • Click on the small icon with the Red X
    • Select the Always Allow option and click Done

  4. After login, click on“NetExtender”

  5. Then click on “Download”


  6. Click “Windows.exe” under "NetExtender Clients"


  7. Click on "NXSetupU.exe" after it downloads or select “Run” from the pop-up to run the install.

    • If asked for administrative rights to install or if you want to run, select yes.
    • Accept the 'terms of license agreement'
    • Accept all defaults during the installation.
  8. Configure the client by:
    • Entering the below when prompted or click on the Nx icon to open if it did not do so automatically
    • Enter “” in the Server field
    • Enter your username (Ramlink) and password
    • Enter “” in the Domain field
    • Select “Save user name only if server allows” in the drop-down at the bottom
    • Click “Connect” to connect to the VPN




  1. You are now connected to the VPN!
    • You can move or minimize this window and you will stay connected to the network
    • Please keep in mind that if you close this window you will end your VPN connection and loose connectivity to the University network
    • When you are finished with your work, you can bring the NetExtender window to the forefront and click the Disconnect button


**Each time you need to use VPN, open the NetExtender client by clicking on the "Nx SonicWall NetExtender"  icon and enter your password and then connect
